Bellies Inc. was founded in 2010 when the original owners and creators of the Ab System knew there was a need for a product that assisted newly postpartum folks heal and restore core after the birth of their baby. The founders took their collective knowledge of pre/postnatal fitness and physiotherapy, along with scientific research and traditional cultural practices to create the Ab System to help prepare the core for birth and optimize postpartum healing.
Enter Samantha Garcia Gagnon, an experienced birth doula, birth photographer and doula mentor who knows first hand the struggles that new parents face in all aspects of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Samantha has a shared appreciation with the founders in believing that the postpartum time should be focused on rest and healing.
Samantha is originally from the Philippines where she witnessed the birth of a baby being surrounded by helping hands so that the birther could rest and heal. In 2007, she moved to Canada and had her first child in 2012 (she now has 3!). Her postpartum experience was just like what she experienced culturally growing up - surrounded by helping hands and focused on nourishing the new parent. However, she saw this was not the experience of many of her Canadian friends who were quickly back to running around and filling their schedules with busy-ness. As a doula, she puts a lot of focus on sharing with her clients the benefits of rest and appropriate moves in healing our bodies.
Samantha is excited to be able to reach more families with her work at bellies inc. and continuing to celebrate the power of the postpartum body. She lives in Pitt Meadows, BC with her husband Michael and kids Joseph, Estelle and Solomon. When she isn't workings or momming, she likely has a powertool in hand doing her next DIY home project.
